notes that the club has sent teams to cross country nationals nearly every year
since 1998, and he has put together a list of
club performances at cross country nationals.
GBTC sprinter Gary Snyder is now chair of the USATF Masters Track & Field
Committee. This means Gary will have a seat on the board of directors for the
national governing body of our sport, and will represent the USA at the world
level at the IAAF. Gary was president of the New
England chapter of the USATF in 2002 and 2004, and was president of GBTC for
five years. See a blog
post on the election.
Recently, Russ Miller

Bradley Fish (Famous, Hayden, Blake, Johnson), took 1st among the women’s teams
and 2nd among all relay teams to the overall relay winning team, GBTC Mixed Up
Fish (Cullina, Woodward, Davie, Kozel).
Congratulations to our
2006 USATF New England Grand Prix Ironrunners: Christy Bonstelle (first woman in
the club to be an Ironrunner?), Bruce Bond (for perhaps his 8th or 9th time, and
Michael Olivo did it again.
The club elected a new
board of directors at the annual meeting
on October 24. Many thanks to outgoing board members Ken Agabian, Jane
Cullina, Katie Fobert and Jim O'Brien.

Bob Cedrone finished 3rd in the hammer throw in his age group with a toss of 149
feet, and Sarah Lawson scored 6th and 8th in her age group in the 100 and 200

Hanover, NH, August 26 —
GBTC's Emily Raymond and Megha Doshi took first and second in the half marathon
in a couple of the better times ever run by women in GBTC. Both are preparing

Newburyport, MA,
August 1—GBTC runners survived the 6:30 pm Newburyport, Yankee Homecoming 10 mile race in temperatures that started at 94.9°F and 60% humidity to 87.2°F and 75% humidity or like running while wearing one of the plastic bags that your dry cleaning comes back in. Christy Bonstelle
had the club star performance of the day. The men's team bolstered by visiting
former member Glen Mays placed 2nd. The women's team placed 4th (results).
Stowe, VT, July 16—At the Stowe 8 Miler, GBTC women placed 3rd in open division with the help of new member Audrey Giesler who placed 6th
(results). She is newly arrived from Chicago where she ran for the Universal Sole team. Jeremey Borling also from Chicago and Universal Sole led our men's team with a 9th place finish. The two of them proved to be a delightful addition to a trip that was pleasant in every respect except for the hot, humid race itself. The women's team is now third in the overall Grand Prix by one point!
GBTC took home three separate pieces of hardware at the National Club Track and
Field Championships held in Walnut, CA at Mount San Antonio College (Mt. SAC) on
July 15. The women won entire competition outlasting teams from Virginia and New
York by winning the last event, the 4x800, in a meet record 8:51. The members of
the team were Kelly Powell, Jen Lee, Caroline Occean, and Anna Willard on the
anchor. Other victories included Anna Willard in the 1500 and Kateema Riettie in
both the javelin and shotput, with everyone contributing points in virtually
every discipline. On the men's side, in similar fashion the men secured 2nd
place by winning the 4x800 as well in 7:48, with a team of Aaron Binkley, Josh
Seeherman, Andie Colon, and Joe Otto. Sean Furey chipped in a victory in the
javelin as the GBTC men just nipped the ConnQuest track club by a scant 5
points. As usual, GBTC was one of the largest and vocal clubs at the meet, which
is a testament to our love of the sport. Kudos, as always, are directed to Dave
Callum for making it possible (results).
Emily Raymond won the
Bill Luti 5-Miler in Concord, New Hampshire (results).
Lynn Johnson was the
fourth woman at the Little Compton Road Race in Rhode Island on July 8.
GBTC's Jen Busse won the Whirlaway 10K to become the USATF
New England women's Grand Prix 10K Champion on June 25th in Methuen, MA (results). In the warmth and humidity she led the GBTC women's team to fourth place and past the BAA into second overall in the year's Grand Prix standings. The GBTC women are now three points behind the Merrimack Valley Striders, but only a point ahead of the BAA, and Whirlaway, and 2 points ahead of the Central Mass Striders. The Stowe race on July 16th will be critical.
The GBTC men's team placed 6th and is standing 6th in the Grand Prix. An interesting note is that this race marks the return of Wendy Newsham to club competition. She and Bill first met through the club many years ago. It is a wonderful thing that she has come full circle. Welcome back Wendy.
GBTC men and women are
champions again after winning the USATF New England Outdoor track championships
(results).
That makes it 7 straight for the men and 5 of the last 6 for
the women winning USATF New England Oudoor titles.
That's 25 New England titles for the men and women of
GBTC for the USATF indoor and outdoor championships in
the last 9 years since February of 1998.
June 4th, 2006 Lincoln, RI—The Greater Boston Track Club women's team grabbed second place in the New England Grand Prix 5 km Championship
(results). The team of Jen Busse, Sloan Siegrist, Laura Hyden, Lynn Johnson, and Megha Doshi scored in that order.
See
photos by Bruce Davie. The GBTC team is now tied for second place with Merrimack Valley Striders in the series behind the Boston Athletic Association.
The next Grand Prix race will be on June 25 in the Whirlaway 10km in Meuthen, MA.
In the 200 meters at the
High Performance meet on June 3, Sara O'Brien and Christine Kloiber finished
one-two in 26.01 and 27.01 (results).
With better weather,
GBTC had many solid performances at the second Boston High Performance meet.
Sara O'Brien capped off her season debut in the 400 with a victory (57.8), and
Joe Otto ran a full 18 seconds faster than in April in 1500 (4:03). PR's were
also set by Jen Busse in the 1500 (4:44) and Katie Famous in the 3K (10:35).
Cecily Gallup broke 2:20 in the 800 for the first time in this millenium
(seriously, the last time was 1999). See the
full results.
May 17, Salisbury -- In
the 17th Run for the Roses in Salisbury, MA a top GBTC team negotiated the
flooded roads to race for the win in this all-women's road race, but fell short
by 200 meters. Sloan Siegrist ran out to do battle with the leaders while Laura
Hayden and Emily Raymond waited. 264 women ran and 7 open teams (results).
May 21, Denver —The Greater Boston Track Club
women's road relay team placed 8th in the USATF
National Club Road Relay Championships today in this mile-high city.
The team of Cheryl Twomey, Megha Doshi, Lynn Johnson, Michelle Lang, and Laura Hayden raced the marathon distance in

a second place tie to Unattached Mike Kennedy and behind winner ConnQuest's Paul
Pisano (results).
Lincolndale, NY May 6th—GBTC's Jen Busse ran a personal best of 9:58
finishing in the money in the special professional Joe Wynne
Memorial 3,000 meter race in the
Somers Lions High School Track and
Field Invitational. She traveled with her teammates and coach to
break 10:00 for the first time. Her previous best was 10:08.37 in the GBTC Invitational 1/22/06. The race started very quickly with the
entire field in contention for the first laps. When Ayila threw in a
surge no one could follow. She eased off in the last laps under the
hot sun allowing the field to almost catch up.
April 30, Brown University —
Records weren't just broken at Penn Relays. On Sunday, several GBTC athletes made there way to
Brown's Spring Invitational. Leading the way, Jen
Hawkes broke the club high jump record, set by Anne
Jennings in 1994, with her leap of 1.70 meters
(5ft7in) for second place. Jen has been consistently
at the 5'6 mark all indoors, and is now really opening
things up as she hopes to make the club national trip.
Sherita Williams took home the triple jump honors
with her winning 13.20 meter jump (43ft3.75in), nearly
a foot ahead of BU's Tahari James. Not bad
considering she drove back from Penns Saturday night!
On the men's side, Thierno Mbacke, also making the
road trip back from Penn's Saturday night, earns 5th
(out of 14)(57.79) in the 400m intermediate hurdles,
just off his season best (results)
April 27, Philadelphia, PA—GBTC's Sloan Siegrist ran her personal best 5 km in the Olympic Development race
Thursday evening in the Penn Relays
(results).
Siegrist previously represented Guam in the Athens Olympics running the 1500
meters. She is a graduate student in microbiology at Harvard. The next
day, in the Olympic Development races, the men came in third in the shuttle
hurdle (results),
tenth and thirteenth in the 4x100 (results),
and eleventh and twelfth in the 4x400 (results);
and the women finished third and seventh in the 4x100 (results)
and fifth in the 4x400 (results).
Finally, the women's 4x100 team of Sherita
Williams, Dacia Taylor, Cecily Gallup and Sara
O'Brien broke the club record.
Sean Furey wons the Javelin throw representing GBTC,
also broke the his own club record and took home a
fancy Penn Relays gold watch for his achievement. Joe
Otto took home a sleek gold watch, after competing in
the 4x400 A-team, ran a corporate DMR with Raytheon, and
his 1200 leg contributed to his team's first place. The javelin throw by Sean
Furey and women's 4x100 results were both club records.
Three GBTC runners came home with a grand total of $650 in prize money from the Anderson
5K at MIT. Jen Busse easily won the women's race over training partner and neighbor, Cheryl Twomey. Mike Panas took second in the men's race
(results).
Lynn Johnson won the Dean College 10K in Franklin, Massachusetts, in 39:35 (results).
Thomas Young won the Architects For Humanity 5K in Brighton, Massachusetts,
in 17:41, and Aaron Binkley came in fourth (results).
For the future, Kit Wells has updated the club calendar.
At the Boston Marathon on April 17, the Greater Boston Track Club women finished 3rd and the men 7th in the team competition.
Mega Doshi, Emily Raymond, and Michelle Lang ran a combined time of 9:31:01.
The team of Lucas Woodward, Kit Wells, and Sarad Tomlinson added up to 8:00:26 (pictures).
At Northeastern University's Solomon Invitational on April 15, GBTC's Sherita
Williams won the triple jump and GBTC's men's team won the 4x400 (results).
See the GBTC guide to the
Boston Marathon, a supplement to the
coming April edition of our newsletter, the Wingfoot, by
editor Kit Wells.
GBTC women dominated the 5,000 meters on the track from the first lap to the
finish at the Tufts Hillside Relays on April 8. Working together, training
partners Jennifer Busse and Sloan Siegrist had no contest. Sherita Williams won
the long jump (results).
The GBTC men won the Cohasset 10K. Kit Wells, in preparation for the Boston Marathon or in amends
for running off course in the Eastern States 20 miler last week, came
to the Cohasset 10 km to win. But he hadn't counted on the vastly
experienced Andrew Noble to bolt out to a quick lead with a 4:52
first mile. Wells worked with his teammate, David Bedoya, into the
stiff North Atlantic winds along the coast road to reel in Noble, but
by the end he remained 31 seconds ahead. Lucas Woodward ran out
conservatively and worked his way to 10th with Joe Otto two places
back. Along with Peter Warrington, the GBTC men won the team prize.
For their team prize they got a big bag of swag including a bottle of
wine, four wine glasses, five baseball hats, five sweat shirts, a
leather wallet, many key rings, several gift certificates, and other
mysterious stuff. Wells and Bedoya got jackets, gift certificates, bouquets of
flowers, and more velvet-lined sweat shirts. Ole coach Tom Derderian got a sweat
shirt and a shiny thing for mixing or shaking ice with vodka for James Bond or
something (results).
At the Boston Tune-Up 15k in Upton on April Fool's Day, Emily Raymond easily won
the women's race and Megha Doshi showed great recovery after her third place
finish at the Eastern States 20 last Sunday. John Joseph Fialkovich valiantly
tried to win the whole thing on the men' side. He pushed for the lead and almost
got away with it but for three guys who nailed him in the last of the many, many
hills on this tough, bucolic course. Conservative starting Tomoaki Uchiki closed
with in seconds of Fialkovich, followed shortly by Sam Blasiak. Young Sarad
Tomlinsu continues to show that he has a
great future as a long distance runner (results).
Bridget Montgomery has
been named the 2006 winner of the Margaret Bradley
Award. Bridget runs with the Universal Sole Track Club in Chicago and
will come here to run the Boston Marathon. (See her
Universal
Sole biography.) Later in the year, a member of GBTC will be named an award
winner to run Chicago.
Steven Franklin won the Loco Moose 6K in Brockton on March 25 (results).
Another medal for Geraldine Pillay! In the 200m at the Commonwealth Games in Melbourne, Australia, Geraldine (GBTC 60m indoor record holder) avenged her
100m loss to Jamaica's Sheri-Ann Brooks (5th in the
200), but instead fell victim to two other Jamaican
born sprinters, Sherone Simpson and Veronica Campbell.
Geraldine completes her 2006 games with a bronze
medal in the 200m, running 22.92, to go along with her
silver in the 100m dash.
Sherita Williams won the Raleigh Relays triple jump
by nearly 4 feet with a new personal best smashing her
club outdoor record with a 13.44 meter hop-skip-jump
(44'1.25''). Also competing in the cool temperatures, Theirno Mbacke opened his
season with a 59.70 in the intermediate hurdles and club friend Ray Smith was
challenged in the long jump by irregular winds in his 10th (of 40) place 22'7
(6.88 meters). (Full
results)
Sloan Siegrist (37:17.21)
broke the Guam National 10K record at the Northeastern Snowflake meet, running second to GBTC's Jen Busse (37:15.41). Laura Hayden (38:20),
Cheryl Twomey (38:29) and Maegan Chaggaris (39:29)
rounded out the 10K cast. Maybe the ladies should
attend bacherolette parties the night before every
race! Mbathio Diarra completes the female roster with
her race in the 200m in 29.91. All in all, the women took 5 of the top 6 spots,
and one through four in the 10,000 meters.
Equally exciting, a battle for the top three spots in
the men's 10K, each within 5 seconds at the line, we
had Ted Breen running down 1st place just steps behind
at the finish in 33:27.46. Coach Tom Derderian also
made his presence known in the 10K. In other events,
David Cahill opened up well with an 800 in 2:04.40 for
6th place, while Mike Panas took a measure of his
current basework beating a third of the competition.
Ryan Croteau and Will Feldman each ran their first 1500m track races EVER, in
4:39 and 4:49 respectively. (Full

At the New Bedford Half
Marathon on March 19, the Greater Boston Track Club opened the USATF New
England Grand Prix season with a 4th place finish by the women's open team with
Laura Hayden, Jen Busse, and Cheryl Twomey in the scoring positions. The open
men finished 7th a mere one second behind Greater Lowell! David Bedoya and Kit
Wells topped the team with personal records. Bedoya will be joining the GBTC
men's Boston Marathon defending championship team (results).
Josh Seeherman has updated his club
performance list and record list, and Kit
Wells has published the March edition of
the Wingfoot, our club newsletter.
GBTC men's and women's team repeated wins today in the
Hyannis Half Marathon with GBTC's
Lynn Johnson winning for the second year in a row. GBTC Josh Sohn placed 3rd,
one spot down from last year. The news of the day is Cheryl Twomey in her first
race for the club running second to Johnson. The day gave the runners slow times
with blustery winds and roads with slippery spots. The next big race will be the
Grand Prix half marathon in New Bedford on March 19th (results).
Kit Wells has updated the
club calendar, Josh Seeherman has updated the
club performance list, and

Sherita Williams was named
Athlete of the Month by
USATF New England for her record-setting
performance at the GBTC Invitational in
January.
Champions again! The
GBTC
men and women have won the USATF
New England Indoor
Track & Field Championships on February 19. This makes the sixth
win in a row for the women, and the men have won seven of the last eight years.
The same weekend, the
GBTC women finished second in the 8K race at the
National
Cross-Country Championships in New York. Our GBTC team lined up with pretty
much all the internationally known American women distance runners on Saturday,
February 18, in Van Cortland Park in the Bronx in NYC in the USA Cross-country
Championships. The scene felt more like the winter Olympics with snow squalls
dancing across the course. Our team was Jess Busse, Maegan Chaggaris, Carol
Geddes, and Emily Raymond. It was a hard race run in tough conditions after a
long trip. Ours are tough runners who valiantly put the club name up on the
score board (pictures).
The club returned again to Boston University for the annual
Saint
Valentine's Meeting on February 10-11. This year, the meet was enormous; the largest meet ever
held at the new BU facility. GBTC had many excellent performances and personal
bests. The women competed Friday night (until almost midnight !), and
Sherita Williams continued her undefeated streak
by winning the triple jump. Reminiscent of 2003 when 3 women's club records
fell, 2 more fell on Friday as Sloan Siegrist
topped the 20-year old record in the 3K with a stellar 9:51. Anne Baker, a
former top DIII thrower for U-Rochester, shattered the old weight throw mark
with a 15 meter heave. Elsewhere, Sara O'Brien
won her heats of both the 400 and the 200. On the men's side, former Harvard
standout Alasdair McLean-Foreman ran an excellent 8:12 in the 3K to place to
take 2nd overall. Joe Otto continued his PR binge by
running the first 1:52 of his career and winning his heat, and
Langston Dugger dropped under 50 seconds (49.6) for
the first time this season. The men's meet was highlighted by excellent races in
the mile and 800, with Matt Lincoln's 4:03 and Sam Burley's 1:46 (results for
men and
women, and a coach's report on the
meet).
On Sunday, February 5th, a few lone runners represented GBTC well at the
Great Stew Chase 15K. Christy Bonstelle and
Jenny Thomas flew over the course in times of
1:04:20 and 1:08:03, good for 7th and 11th place respectively. On the men's
side, Jason Dunklee finished the race in 7th place with a time of 55:07 (results).
GBTC was out in force at the venerable
Terrier Classic
January 27-28 with many
excellent times, rising to the occasion and running tremendous seasonal bests
over previous times earlier in the year. Friday night,
Joe Otto PR'd in the 800 winning his heat and placing 4th (1:53), and
Langston Dugger also won his heat of the 400 and led
off the relay in a 49.7. Elsewhere on the track, Kit
Wells and Sam Blasiak steamrolled to personal
bests in the 3K as they hovered near the 9:00 barrier. On Saturday, the women
met the challenge and ran even better. Emily Raymond and Jen Busse flew around
the track in the 5K running 17:06 and 17:09, #2 and #3 all-time for the club.
Jane Cullina won her heat of the 800 in a time 5
seconds faster than the week before, and Caroline Occean
(a BU alumnae) returned to her home track and won her heat of the 500.
Laura Hayden ran her personal best within a second
of the club record in the mile with a 4:58.45. The
winning prize however, goes to Sloan Siegrist who
ran a full 12 seconds faster in the 3K from last weekend and almost broke the
club record (9:52) (full
results
for men and
women).

the GBTC Invitational
held January 22. GBTC member
Sherita
Williams jumped 44' 3/4"
in the triple jump, setting a new personal record,
club record,
meet record, facility
record, and setting
fifth best jump in the world this year, breaking the meet record set by
Toronto's Althea Williams in 2000. Nike's
Jen Toomey ran
4:32.28 in the Invitational
Mile, which would have been the
second fastest mark in the country in 2005, setting both a
meet record and track
record for the mile, breaking the meet record set by New Balance's Kathy
Flemming in 1999. Rumors are that several other people qualified for
nationals.
On January 15th, a small contingent of GBTCers took to the track at the first
Tufts Invitational of the new year. GBTC was led by Sherita Williams who
obliterated the competition with a 43 foot triple jump, breaking her own club
record, the facility record, and becoming the first GBTC woman this season to qualify
for the USATF national championships in February at our own Reggie Lewis
facility. Emily Raymond ran a season PR in the 5000 placing second (17:37 - only
losing to an All-American from Williams), and Sloan Siegrist opened her season
with a 3rd place finish in the 1500. On the men's side, Dan Conti placed 2nd in
the pole vault, Joe Otto ran an excellent 1000 meter run to finish 3rd, and the
relay team of Langston Dugger, Jerome Mauris, Francis Shen, and Joe Otto ran
unopposed in the second heat taking 3rd place overall. The hurdlers also
competed well with all three athletes in the Top 10 (results).
A GBTC jumper took second place at Dartmouth! New GBTC member Jen Hawkes jumped
5'5" (1.65m) to take second place in the Dartmouth relays high jump on Sunday
January 8 (full results). She is
from Chicopee, MA and a recent graduate of Mt Holyoke College. The
club record in the High Jump is 1.68m set by
Anne Jennings 1994.

2005
On December 31, after the development meet at BU, GBTC members formed teams to
run again in the jolly Lou's 4x1600 Relay. All of our runners except Jen Busse
had already run one or two events. The event was great fun with a couple of our
runners, Peter Warrington and Brian Lankiewicz, running about 5 minutes for
other pick up teams. Jen's time figures to be a 5:07.12 mile by extrapolating
for the additional 9 meters. The men's team finished in 19:25.04: Didier
Pramil 4:41.90; Tomaoki Uchiki 4:56.5; John Blouin 4:55.7; Bruce Davie 4:50.6.
The women's team finished in 22:58.73: Jen Busse 5:06.99; Christy Bonstelle
6:15.4; Margaret Nervegna 5:47.7; Carol Geddes 5:48.7.

GBTC was well-represented at the BU Mini Meet on the last day of the year.
Andie Colon's 800 was inspiring as he taught a painful last-lap lesson to the
boys who tried to beat him. GBTC also had two teams in the 4x1600 relay. Men
were Didier Pramil, the French Guy, Tomoaki Uchkik, the Japanese Guy, Bruce
Davie, the Australian Guy, and John Blouin, the Native Son. Women were new
member, Jen Busse, who ran a personal best mile in her lead off of 5:05, Christy
Bonstelle, Carol Geddes, and tripling for the day, the Darn Tough Margaret
Nervegna. Langston Dugger and Mohamed Carew are new to the club as is master
runner David Burgess (results).

Joe Otto, running in his first track season for GBTC, posted a personal best in
the mile at the Boston University development meet on Saturday, Dec 17. He ran
4:22.29. Joe was a Division III indoor All- American in the 800 at Rensselaer
Polytechnic Institute where he graduated with a degree in Electrical
Engineering. He is a native of West Seneca, NY. Ryan Croteau easily ran his
personal best in the mile 4:59.72 since this was his first track race, ever. The

At the Harvard Invitational track meet on December 10, Emily Raymond won the
5000m race, starting in last place and overtaking each runner to astonish the
crowd with a blazing final lap to win by less than a half second in 17:48.27,
and Sloan Siegrist and Laura Hayden followed for 3rd and 4th. Rebekah Conway
again rewrote the women's weight throw club record (2001, 11.70m) with her
12.68m heave for 7th place (out of 27), improving by over two feet from last
week. Club President, Bruce Davie, showed a great kick in the mile in 4:44.57
for 25th out of about 42 kids half his age! Sam Blasiak ran his personal best in
the mile. Francis Shen and Dave Cahill both ran 1:06 for 5th and 6th in the 500.
And GBTC continues its hurdling dominance with three in the finals: Matt LeMaire
(3), Francis Shen (4), Dan Conti (7). Joe Otto ran a speedy 50.9 speedy 3rd leg
in the mile relay to help Dave Cahill, Francis Shen, and Andy Colon take 4th in
3:26.28 (results,

The Greater Boston Track Club will have 24 athletes competing in the Harvard
Invitational on Saturday, December 10, starting at 10:30 am. Sloan Siegrist
will try to keep her position at the top of the 5000 meter club performance
list. She ran her personal best last week but will be closely pursued by Laura
Hayden, Emily Raymond, and Katie Famous. The men's mile will see the track debut
of Joe Otto who may top the week-old club performance list by eclipsing Jay
Slowik's 4:25. Andi Colon will jump onto the track for his first 800 since last
spring. Club president, masters runner Bruce Davie, will mix it up with the
college youngsters in the mile. He plunked down a seed time of 4:42. Board
member Dan Conti will pole vault. The fans will be warming the stands waiting to
see what happens in all the competitions.

National Championships in Carson, California,
Sherita Williams placed 17th (out of 23 competitors) with her 12.76m jump

in the Long Jump and Triple Jump, followed two weeks later by Club Nationals on
Randall's Island, New York.
It was a hot and humid race at the
Whirlaway 10K

GBTC Heads to the Big Apple July 15th-17th. For the fifth straight year, GBTC
will be participating in the Club National Championships held at the new Icahn
Stadium on Randalls Island in New York City. Overall national champions in 2002
and runners-up in 2003 and 2004, GBTC looks to extend the history of excellence
in 2005 competing against the nation's best. Our club is one the original teams
that competed at the first organized championship in 2001 and always brings the
loudest most enthusiastic group (much to the jealousy of the other smaller
teams). This year, our teams look stronger than ever, particularly with the
return of one of our top sprinters, Stan Egbor, and the addition of another,
Kwesi Frimpong-Boateng. The men's throws are much improved as well with a whole
new group of javelineers waiting to scoop up some points. On the women's side we
have added a slew of long sprinters and middle distance runners. Standouts also
include Sherita Williams, a nationally ranked horizontal jumper, and Kateema
Riettie, our new club record holder in the javelin. With the new venue closer to
home, this championship will surely be the most competitive yet. The club is
always looking to increase our participation rate at Club Nationals especially
in the longer distances for more info contact Coach Dave Callum

GBTC won both the both the men's and women's championships in convincing fashion
this past Sunday at MIT's Steinbrenner Track, 80-19-17 over Lincoln Tornado and

the men's side. On the women's side Sarah O'Brien anchored both relays and
scored in both the 200 and 400, and Sloan Siegrist set a mammoth PR in the 1500,
nearly breaking the club record. The men were paced by a deep hurdle crew and a
surprisingly large group of throwers; Rich DeStefano led the throwers with an

Today at the not-so-warm very windy Tufts track GBTC faired admirably
against the collegiate competition. The meet was highlighted by

hurdles, Sarah O'Brien won the 400, and Caroline Occean finished
second in the 1500. Speedy Stan Egbor and Kwesi Boateng went 1-2 in
the 100, and Stan additionally won the 200. A great tune-up meet and
great publicity. Full results (eventually) at

Teddy Breen, John Fialkovich, and Marzuki Stevens raced ten miles
against stiff winds, stiff competition and steep hills in

better of it and let someone else, one Paul Lowe, take over and win
the race. Teddy finished in around 58 minutes about two minutes slower

title away from Mr. Lowe. Fialkovich ran with long socks and mean
stride breaking the 61minute barrier and a few of his toes. Marzuki

Josh Sohn and Maegan Chaggaris each raced to second place on the hilly
Derry, New Hampshire, course at the Boston Prep 16 Miler on February 6.
A new course record was established in both men's and women's races.
Josh claims that the hills --- including a 200 feet of
elevation gain between miles 10 and 12 --- were not that
bad, but a side stitch would have cost him 2nd place if the race had
been 1/4 mile longer. John Blouin came in 10th, breaking 6-minute
miles and starting the trend of age-group prizes for GBTC. Meagan
Chaggaris was 2nd female (under the old course record) and set a
half-marathon PR en route. New member Sara Donohue was 4th woman and
won her age-group, followed by Katie Fobert (2nd in age-group) and
Michelle Lang. Making a welcome return to form was Christy Bonstelle,
who also took 2nd in her age-group. Tom Whitney rounded out the pack
of GBTC finishers with a solid sub-8 per mile performance. The award
ceremony consisted of a steady transfer of bottles of maple syrup from
the awards desk to the GBTC table. Look for a big GBTC pancake
breakfast in the near future
