Racing Roundup – 12/5/17
Data and notes compiled by Coach Rod
A contingent of GBTC athletes spent the weekend in sunny California to race the California International Marathon (CIM) in Sacramento. CIM played host to the US Marathon Championships, and the fields were some of the deepest in recent memory. Our own Laura Paulsen punched her Olympic trials ticket for the second time by running 2:41. Lauren Opachinski PR’d in a quick 2:52 as well! New member Semehar Tesfaye went out on 2:36 pace, which is in her wheelhouse, but had a tough second half, finishing off of her goal performance, but still sneaking under 3 hours to give us three women sub 3. Jeff Ragazzini is getting back into fitness mode as he ran 2:49 at the same race. Andy Chalmers joined the race and ran alongside Lauren to finish in almost the same time.
Jon Berit is the early world leader for 59 year olds in the 800m with his 2:45.77 effort at the UMass Winter Open.
Another new member was out racing this weekend as well; Chip Melleby earned himself a shiny new PR for the half marathon distance, covering it in 1:30 at the Frosty Half Marathon.
Cristopher Battoo started off his indoor campaign strong by running 15:27 at BU Season Opener while new athlete Ian Christen crossed the line in 15:51.
A complete list of season performances is coming soon!
