Husky Carnival
Northeastern University
December 6, 2003
results

Despite the snowstorm, Northeastern held its first competition of the year, with about half the entries actually showing up. This meant that in the events from the 500 up there were only one or two heats, which created havoc for us trying to time our warmup. Nonetheless, for those who did show up, we were blessed with an unusually fast meet. The men's portion lasted all of 2.5 hours, with the horizontal jumps excluded. GBTC was paced by Chris Westfield, one of our excellent pole vaulters from last year, who cleared 15-0 and had some decent attempts at 15-6. For those who have never met Chris, he has been with the club since last winter and trains on his own with the help of the AirTime Athletics Pole Vault Club that trains at Brandeis. I have a feeling he will break our 30 year club record of 15-9 sometime this season. On the track, GBTC had a skeleton crew, but those who arrived ran well for this time of the season. Jon Manosh placed 9th in the 55 (6.76) and Francis Shen placed highly in both the 55 hurdles and the 500 with times of 8.05 and 67.05 respectively. Dave Cahill and myself took 5th places in the 800 (2:03) and 1000 (2:47), although I admit my high placing was a byproduct of only 8 entries. The small meet also allowed Coach Callum to allow some newcomers to step into the 4x400 relay, as we had two compete novices (first race ever) and another who hadn't competed in 5 years. Although the time (3:41) doesn't look too fast, the effort was there.

That's the scoop
