Deon Barrett (341), Jesse Darley (345), and Mark
Reeder (348) represented the club in the 10,000 meter race along with
Arnold Seto (not pictured). Coach Tom Derderian told the men to let
someone else lead in the first lap, so they did, and then took
over. Trading the lead every lap, Deon and Jesse cranked out
five-minute miles. They clearly dominated the field with their
feathery footsteps and placid faces, running smoothly and efficiently,
and lapped nearly everyone to win with Jesse in 31:04 and Deon in
31:10, both personal bests. (Photo by Tom Derderian.)

Livvy Williams (59), teacher and former Springfield
College runner, ran 18:43 for second place in a lonely 5,000 meter
race where first and third ran far away. (Photo by Tom

Christina Manolatou (58), MIT electrical engineering
Ph.D. candidate, ran her first 5,000 meter race on a track and
finished in 18:55. Sage Green (57), a biologist, finished in
19:04. (Photo by Tom Derderian.)

Ethan Crain (344), late of MIT and now of Maine,
took the lead in the 1,500 meter race. Running in the cold wind, he
led into the final straightaway and on to the final steps when a
Northeastern runner nipped him by a zillionth of a second. Ethan ran a
3:59, which translates into about a 4:17 mile. (Photo by Tom

In the 800 meter race, Ben Pease (347), Miami of
Ohio, blasted out to a relaxed first 200 and held excellent position
into the final 400. He ran his open 800 season best of 1:57. Erik
Spayde (350) followed with a 1:59. Ethan Crain and Ted Bowen ran 2:02
and about 2:05.(Photo by Tom Derderian.)

Brian Woodbury (601) jumped about 20 feet in the
long jump and made the finals in the 100 meters, winning his trial
with a 11.4. Woodbury then topped the club
list for 200 meters with a 23.54. Brian stands here with Terry O'Neill
who ran in the featured event at the end of the day, the 4x400 relay,
and who also serves as the club's sprint coach. A Lowell runner
snatched victory from the 4x400 team of Dave Cahill, Mike
Leding, Terry O'Neill, and Sean Ballou in the final stretch, but the
team ran 3:24.01 for a season best. (Photo by Tom Derderian.)
