Seeing the Fast in Feast

Good Gravy! (L-R) Gaskins, McCabe, and Clark flap their Thanksgiving Day wings 'n thighs at the Feaster Five in Andover, MA

Yesterday morning, dozens of club members didn't ruminate over why a Turkey Day Trot feels necessary. They instead stood up from the table, carried their own plate back to the local kitchen, and hand-carved slices of road race bird, which were generously adorned with all the best trimmings and enrobed in the gravy of victory.

Just desserts soon followed. Click the "more" below to taste what GBTC whipped up in the results.

New York Thriller

Younger members Mike Guarascio (ca. 1983) and Sarah Romain (ca. 1984) weren't yet born the last time an American (Alberto Salazar, a GBTC alumnus) won the New York City Marathon back in 1982, in the trough of that particular era's economic recession. But what was once old has become new again, as self-made American and Olympian Meb Keflezighi minted his own $200,000 economic recovery package, by winning the whole NYRR shebang including the simultaneous USATF Championship.

Meanwhile, GBTCers Guarascio (2:55:56), Romain (3:19:38), Allison Tables (ca. 1979, 3:39:09), Brian McNamara (ca. 1982, 2:39:16), and Matthew Biggart (ca. 1984, 2:48:54) punched their own tickets for an obscure local sporting tradition while contemplating when a future American might do similar justice to Miki Gorman's legacy along Lebow's five-borough course (her second victory was in 1977). Provisional results are now posted here. Celebrities including Ed Norton (3:48:01) were counted among the dead (who) start to walk in their masquerade.

And finally, bearing their combined funk of forty thousand years, longtime members Andy Rogovin (77th, 3:25:16) and John Blouin (12th, 3:05:43) qualified for the B.A.A. footrace at the Cape Cod and Mount Desert Island Marathons, in their own time. Results are here: CCM, MDI.
