Flash Results: Club Nats on Bluegrass
This is a first look at the 2009 USATF National Club Cross Country Championships in Lexington, KY. Mares raced a course of 30 furlongs, while Stallions covered 50. GBTC's women placed 14th of 29 teams, while the men finished 31st out of 42 teams. Today's team leaders were Allison McCabe and Ryan Place.
When Coach Tom was interviewed about the women's race, he insisted "today's girls' performance was the best XC nationals performance ever." The spread among our top five women was a very brief 41 seconds.
Later, over a sumptuous post-race dinner of saffron risotto and a nice chianti, Jennifer Lee confessed that part of her motivation to race so damn hard was to represent her teammates who are specifically excluded from these XC Championships by virtue of lacking U.S. citizenship. "We ran for the immigrants. ;)", she texted and emoticoned. GBTC disagrees with using citizenship as an eligibility requirement for this event, and would like for the policy to be abolished.
