Sprints Tune Up for Penn Relays at Fitchburg

immediately after the victorious 4x400m relay.

Finally blessed with an (almost) rain-free day, eight sprinters and throwers took to Fitchburg State for a day of season bests. Complete results are available here.

Christian Tirella was man of the meet, dropping a 48.66 in the open 400m and then coming back to run a 48.6 split and stalk down two teams to edge out a win in the 4x400m relay. Fellow 400 runners Lucjan Zaborowski (50.44 for 5th) is rolling into form, as is Derek Hebert (51.35 for 8th) and Andrew (55.98). Derek and Andrew came back to double in the 200m.

Rich Harrison was his usual dominant self in the shot, throwing 17.77m (58-03.75) -- to give some context, the next thrower wasn't farther than 45 feet! Jim Watts was also strong, using a great finish to set a new PR in the 1500m (4:45.87 ). In the hurdles, Sydney Harrington opened up the season with a 17.84, and Francis was 2nd in the 110 hurdles (15.85), and won the 400m hurdles (56.81). The squad now prepares for its first big meet next weekend: Penn Relays!
