Sprinters and Throwers at Fitchburg State

A hearty group of ten GBTC sprinters and throwers competed Saturday in very windy and cold conditions at Fitchburg State. For most, it was the first outdoor meet of the year and a day to shake off the rust. Even so, GBTC came away with 5 first place finishes (M100, M200, W200, W Discus, and M400 IH).

Notable performances included our Discus Duo -- Stacey Connor and Deirdre Murphy -- taking the top two slots in the discus; Hafiz Greigre clocking a 48.53 in the 400m (on a day when running a :48 took :46 second effort) and then winning the 200m in 22.06; Josette Pierre-Louis blazing a 26.66 200m into -4.2 headwinds; Joe Brennan overcoming -2.4 headwinds to clock a 11,74 in the 100m, then taking 3rd in the 200m; and Derek Hebert successfully running his first open 400 in 2 years.

On the veteran front, Dave Cahill opened with a solid 400m, and yours truly started his 16th consecutive year of hurdling with a (slow but steady 58.66) victory in the 400m hurdles.

Sydney Harrington and I both met our match with gusting headwinds in the sprint hurdles, and Dee Clark and Andrew Guida also battled the elements in the 800m.
