GBTC's Kevin Somers and Dan Smith followed BAA's Ben Schmeckpeper through the mile in 5.04 on an unseasonable warm day. With temperatures reaching the mid 80's unattached Dan Mazzocco and New Balance's Jeff Caron flew by at 1.5 and pushed past Schmeckpeper. Somers and Smith with Schmeckpeper till two miles (10:06) and Smith passed Schmeckpeper at 3 miles up the hills (15.40) Somers fell back. Down the hills Smith gained on Mazzocco and passed him around mile five and tired to get Caron but he had too much of a lead and Smith suffered from the heat. Smith said, "At every water stop I splashed water on my head and 5-seconds later I was hot again."
Andrew Wommack, too tired for subtlety said, "It was hot."
Everyone, including the 60 year-old coach thought team produced a great effort on a hot day. The team is looking strong for the Bedford, NH 12 km New England Grand Pix on May 16th.
