GBTC Teams Net Codfish

Looming out of the fog like pirates the GBTC women's crew commandeered victory.

The GBTC women won the race with Emily Kroshus and Sara Donahue taking the top two places and the rest of the team no further back than 38th in a 151 runner field. The team scored 21 points against 15 teams.

The GBTC men also won easily with 49 points against 16 other teams in a 155 runner finishing field. Kibrom Temelso led the men placing third despite running off the course with the lead pack then coming back on course in 20th place and working back up through the pack.

The race ran through fog and light rain over wet ground.

The prestigious and competitive Mayor's Cup Championship will race over the same ground on October 26th.

GBTC runner Kit Wells came to watch and ring his cowbell. He observed, " Kevin Somers went to the front not to lead per-se, but because the early
pace was too easy and Tomoaki oozed self confidence from his breakthrough race in Philly."

Both GBTC teams 3rd at USATF 8km Grand Prix

Nate Freese in a big kick with Ben Ndaya. Photo by Ted Tyler coolrunning

The big news is the return of Nate Freese. This Amherst College grad has been out of action for most of the year. New guy Eric Mendoza raced in the GBTC jersey for the first time. He ran at Gonzaga.
Curious note, the top male, female, and masters GBTC runners originally came from Vermont.

Double Win in Carlisle Cross Country

Matt Haringa zooms out to the lead with a big grin and blowing hair.

Photos courtesy of Jim Rhoades and Coolrunning

In the first GBTC team cross-country Grand Prix race both the men and women won. The men by a mere point over the Central Mass Striders and the GBTC women were the only club to finish a team. New GBTC member Emily Kroshus, a Princeton grad and now grad student in public health, led the team. The next club race will be on the roads in the Ollie 8km Road Race Grand Prix in Boston on Saturday.
