Erin Lohrenz and Kevin Sheehan have been named the 2017 GBTC Coaches Award Winners. Both were recognized at the club’s annual meeting on October 24th. With close to 40 members in attendance, Coach Tom Derderian spoke in recognition of Sheehan, who has been a member since 2013. Coach Rod Hemingway shared stories of Lohrenz’s running achievements since joining in 2014.
Lohrenz most recently set a series of personal bests during her buildup to Baystate Marathon on October 22nd. Capping off a successful training cycle, she finished in 3:02:03, a team leading performance during the final race in the USATF-NE Grand Prix series. Following a successful fall of road racing, Erin expressed her appreciation for teammates and her fondness for training with the club.
Before joining GBTC 3 years ago, I had never run with others, let alone compete with a team. Joining the team has enabled me to train with others who are better, faster and smarter runners which has helped me become a better runner. It makes it possible to reach goals you never could on your own when you have others pushing you to get there.
Kevin Sheehan has found success on the track and roads since joining GBTC. He has supported many events as a volunteer, and his passion for meteorology has come in handy when planning and executing cross country races and track events. Kevin shares his experiences as a runner with autism, and he has regularly spoken about his growth as an athlete since joining Greater Boston.
Since joining this club, I’ve starting to be better at being patient within my races and practices which has been a problem for me in the past during high school and college as a runner with Autism. Getting the knowledge from the coaches and mentorship from my teammates has allowed me to learn more about what it takes for me to be smarter and efficient within my training runs.
Congratulations to both Erin and Kevin!
