The men of Greater Boston Track Club are repeat champions in both Open and Team divisions of the USATF-NE Cross Country Grand Prix. With a total of 43 points through all five events, Mike Carlone (pictured right) tops the Men’s Open field. Mike took top honors at both the GBTC XC Festival and WMDP XC Race, as well as a third place finish at the Wayland XC Festival. Right on the heels of Carlone was Brady Becker (pictured left), who placed second overall in Men’s Open Grand Prix scoring with 40 points. When asked about his goals for Cross Country, Carlone expressed his desire for a team championship over an individual title.
“Given that we lost a lot of our top guys from last year, I knew that we had to have people step up. I definitely didn’t go into the season thinking about the Grand Prix Individual Title, but I did want the team title. I skipped a lot of the road races to focus more on XC and to make sure we had a competitive team week in and week out.”
Led by Carlone and Becker, the Men’s team finished the Grand Prix season with 22 points, 7 points ahead of second place HFC Striders. Full squad efforts at GBTC XC Fest (1st), the WMDP Race (1st), and Wayland (1st) put the Red Team out front from the start. Leading a series from gun to tape is no easy task, but the team’s early season efforts carried through to Mayor’s Cup (4th, USATF-NE 3rd) and the New England Championships (4th).
