GBTC Coaches (L to R): Elaina Zizza, Rod Hemingway & Tom Derderian with 2016 Coaches Award Winners Madeline Weber and Manny Gonzalez

GBTC would like to congratulate Madeline Weber and Manuel Gonzalez, 2016 recipients of the Greater Boston Track Club Coaches Awards. At GBTC’s annual open meeting, held on Tuesday November 15th, Madeline and Manny were recognized by Distance Coaches Tom Derderian and Rod Hemingway for both their passion for the sport of running and their dedication to the club. Madeline and Manny each received a “GBTC Red” hoodie. Additionally, new Sprints & Field Coach Elaina Zizza was welcomed during the ceremony.

Madeline Weber has excelled on the roads and the trails since she joined GBTC. Recognized by Coach Tom for her stylish spectacles on the streets and fierce eyewear during competition, Madeline is a multi-year board member and has raced in just about any event you can imagine. She is frequently a scoring member at Grand Prix and Cross-Country races, and has found success on the roads from 5k to the marathon. A native of Massachusetts, Madeline can’t help but join her teammates on the starting line for “Boston” each year, even when she knows that the months of winter training won’t be easy.

Since joining GBTC in 2012, Manny Gonzalez has represented the club in distances from the mile to the marathon. He has excelled at the half marathon, running a club leading 1:08:39 at the 2016 New England Half Marathon Championships in New Bedford. Manny’s best performances at the full 26.2 have come right in Boston, which Manny has run consecutively since moving to Boston for Graduate School at Boston University. Manny has dedicated himself to being an active member of the club, and he has planned numerous team socials and race trips. He has recruited scoring teams at both the Chicago Marathon and Marine Corps Marathon in Washington, DC.

When asking Manny about being a member of GBTC, he shared his fondness for a 20 mile run and breakfast with the team (more the breakfast than the miles).

“…Our conversations lead to talking about our goals for a race and what we need to do to get there. As a team we always encourage each other and find ways to keep each other motivated.”

Congratulations, Madeline and Manny!
